3/6: Carnevale's Season Ends In Atlantic City
Senior Dominick Carnevale dropped his opening round bout to Steinert's Andrew Jiras, 7-5, on Friday night. The loss eliminated Carnevale from the tournament and ended his season.
For the year, Carnevale finished with a 30-8 record for the Rebels.

2/28: Carnevale Is Headed To Atlantic City
Senior Dominick Carnevale's strong performance down the stretch will get a chance to last a little bit longer. Coming all the way from the 7th seed, Carnevale wrestled his way into the 215-pound final at the Region 6 Wrestling Championships. Carnevale lost by fall to top-seed and State Championship favorite Glenn Carson of Southern, but not before he already had punched his ticket to Atlantic City to participate in the 2009 NJSIAA State Championships at Boardwalk Hall.
Senior Joe Esposito came up one win shy of joining Carnevale in AC. After advancing in the wrestleback quarters by a forfeit, Esposito went on to defeat 3rd-seeded John Palsi of Point Beach in the wrestleback semis. In the 3rd place bout, Esposito lost to Jackson's Zach Huxford for the third time in a week's time. Esposito finished the season with a 30-8 record and medals from all four tournaments he participated in this season.
Sophomore Mike Shuaghnessy was also in action on Saturday morning. Shaughnessy was defeated in the wrestleback quarters by Southern's Jason Walters. Shaughnessy ends his season with a 27-8 record and finals appearances in the Battle at the Beach (1st), Roselle Park Tournament (2nd), and District 21 Tournament (2nd).

2/27: Carnevale Knocks Off #2 Seed, Advances to Semis
Senior Dominick Carnevale became the lone Rebel to advance into the semifinal round of this year's Region 6 Wrestling tournament by recording a 3-2 triple overtime win over Long Branch's Randy Rodriguez, the 2nd seed. Next up for Carnevale in the semis will be 3rd-seeded Billy Miller of Brick Memorial.
Joe Esposito dropped a tough 4-2 double overtime loss to Jackson's Zach Huxford, while Mike Shaughnessy was pinned by top-seeded Johnny Morano of TR North at 135.
Both Esposito and Shaughnessy now move into the wrestleback bracket. Esposito will receive a forfeit in his opener, while Shaughnessy draws Jason Walters from Southern, a 3rd place finisher here last year.

2/21: Howell Wins 1st District Title In 15 Years!
Jesse Holzhauer and Dominick Carnebale won championships, and seven other took 2nd, as the Howell Rebels won their first District team title since 1994 and ended Jackson Memorial's run of eleven straight District team titles.
After falling in the finals a year ago, Holzhauer outlasted Jackson's Devin Biscaha to earn his first District title. Carnevale, was making his 2nd District appearance and made it one to remember by picking up pins in the quarterfinals and semifinals of the tournament before knocking off top-seeded, and defending 215-pound champ, Josh Davis of Freehold Boro.
Both Carnevale and Holzhauer will receive 1st round byes in the Region 6 Tournament and will next be in action on Firday night in the quarterfinals at the Ritacco.
Howell's seven 2nd place finishers all hit the mat on Tuesday night's opening round at the Ritacco.

Sophomore Mike Shaughnessy (130) took 1st, juniors Dru Thomas (112) and Jesse Holzhauer (152) placed 2nd, and the Rebels had nine other wrestlers finish in the Top 8 as they finished 2nd as a team in the 22-team field.
