2021 Howell Wrestling
A strong returning cast, some experienced backups now looking to thrive in starting roles, a very promising incoming freshman class... you can basically cut and paste the header for the Howell preview and just keep reusing it every season.
Down low, the Rebels have returning State Qualifiers in sophomore Colin Bradshaw, and senior Neiko Malone. Malone, a Rider University commit, enters the season with 99 career wins. They're part of a deep group that also includes seniors Jared DeVito and Spencer Ostroff, and sophomore Kiera Bruen, who all saw action last year. So there's good experience returning for the Rebels to break in some of their talented freshmen class around, which includes Liam Clark, JJ Machnik. Sebastian Ortega, Sawyer Ostroff, and Aidan Grant.
At 132, senior Kyle Nase, who is committed to TCNJ next year, was a 30-bout winner last season who was a win away from punching a ticket to AC.
There's potential for a great 1-2 combo in the middle of the lineup at 152-160 with newcomer Hunter Mays, a junior transfer who was a State Qualifier in Pennsylvania last year, and senior Paul Jakub. Jakub, who will attend Belmont Abbey next year, has 95 career wins, and is a 2-tme State Qualifier. He will, no doubt, be gunning for another big postseason run after having to miss the postseason last year.
The Rebels also have another strong 1-2 at 182-195 in seniors Nick Cerulli, a 22-bout winner last year, and Hunter Lino, who placed 5th at Regions in 2020.
With no team postseason, the focus for the regular season goes directly on A-North, a division in which Howell as won at least a share of the title in each of the last 15 seasons. We also keep an eye on head coach John Gagliano, who needs nine victories to become the first head coach in Shore Conference history to reach 500 career wins.
